Who Benefits
|
The Greater Greenville Parks Foundation exists to provide extra support for public parks and recreation needs in Greenville County. Public parks and recreation are critical to our community's health, economic development, and quality of life. Our community is fortunate to have great parks, new trails in development, and an array of beneficial recreation programs. As our population grows and our community's needs increase, it is essential that we provide extra support to our public parks and recreation providers. Our featured need - Camp Spearhead and Camp Courage's new home, the Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center is a great example of what can be accomplished when extra support is provided to public parks and recreation. Through a combination of hospitality tax dollars, individual philanthropic gifts, grants, and partnerships, $10.5 million has been raised towards a total capital campaign goal of $12.5 million. The new facility being build at Pleasant Ridge park will provide a new home for Camp Spearhead which serves youth and adults with special needs and disabilities and Camp Courage which serves youth with cancer and / or blood disorders. Last year, $10,000 was raised through individual and corporate giving to provide much needed scholarships for youth to attend after school programs and day camps at community centers operated by the Greenville County Recreation District. The soon to be completed Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail is another great example of what is possible with funding support from the public sector, private sector, corporations, individuals, and local foundations. Throughout the year, www.gonnalovethisplace.com will feature a specific need, project or cause along with a variety of other areas in need of support. Most of our community's residents and visitors just love this place. Working together we can make sure that our generation and generations to come are "gonna love this place" as well.
